Parent Information - YFC Camp 2024

We cannot wait for YFC Camp this summer! We are once again returning to Castaway Camp in Minnesota. Students had an incredible experience at this beautiful lakefront camp last summer!

We know that sending your student away to Camp is a big deal, and we value your trust in us to provide your student with a safe and fun experience.  The information below will provide a lot of important information but always free to reach out if you have questions about anything!

Who:
All current 8th Grade through 12th Grade students

When:
June 9 - 14, 2024

Where:
Castaway Young Life Camp
51709 Co Hwy 31, Detroit Lakes, MN 56501
(218) 325-3550

www.castaway.younglife.org

Cost:
$550 … but do not let the cost deter you from sending your student! We provide opportunities for students to earn discounts/scholarships for Camp through community service projects. The Site Director in your local community can provide more information about these opportunities. (Don’t know who your community’s Site Director is? Reach out to Chris Genders at cgenders@hoiyfc.org to find out!)

Your student will also want a little bit of spending money for roadtrip snacks and for purchases in the Camp Store.

Departure:
We will be leaving from the Christian Center at 5:00am on Sunday, June 9th.  Please arrive by 4:30am to check-in your student, pay any remaining balance and submit medication to our medical team. (Note: All medication MUST be in original containers with name of student, medicine name and dosage printed on labels.)

We encourage parents to drop students off so we don’t have a parking lot full of cars.  Any leaders or students who do need to leave a vehicle at the Christian Center will be asked to leave their keys in the YFC Office in the unlikely situation that cars need to be moved while we are at Camp.

Note: A Packing List will be provided to each student/family as we get closer to Camp.

Christian Center Address:
4100 N. Brandywine Dr.
Peoria IL 61614

Return:
We will be returning to the Christian Center late in the evening on June 14th. We’ll leave camp around 7am and will most likely get back into Peoria between 10-11pm.  We will have students call parents on the trip home to provide a more accurate time of return.

Transportation:
We care greatly for the safety and comfort of students; therefore, we are taking a Peoria Charter Coach bus to YFC Camp. Students are free to bring snacks, tablets, cell phones, etc for the bus ride.

Electronics:
When we arrive at camp, all electronics will be collected and locked up in a safe place.  Students are allowed to use the camp phone although they will need a prepaid card. Please communicate with your camper when/if you’d like to hear from them during camp.

Phone:
The camp itself has little to no cellular service. In the event of an emergency please call the camp @ (218) 325-3550. During our time on the bus to and from Camp you can reach your camper on their phone or through our leaders.

PROJECT SERVE

Have you heard of Project Serve? This is a great opportunity for students & adults who love Jesus and love to serve others. Project Serve team members help run the Camp by serving on teams that cook & serve food, clean bathrooms & common areas, run coffeeshops & concession stands, prepare whole-camp activities and more. Think of it as a mash-up of Summer Camp and a Mission Trip.

Project Serve has slightly different dates than YFC Camp. We will depart on Friday, June 7th and return on Friday, June 14th. Transportation is provided in 12-passenger vans driven by YFC staff members and/or adult volunteers.

Cost for Project Serve is only $100! We keep the price low in exchange for all of the work you will be performing during your week at Camp.
